Macdonald earns £4m in spite of taking a break from music scene

-

SCOTS pop star Amy Macdonald’s companies have made almost £4 million despite her taking a break from the music scene.

New figures from the two companies that handle the singer-songwriter’s income show the cash has continued to roll in during her time off.

During the last year, Macdonald did not release any records and has played only a handful of live gigs as she worked on writing her fourth album.

However, latest accounts show her company, Amy Macdonald Ltd, which channels earnings from her songwriting royalties, made a profit of £1.35m.

Her second company, Amy Macdonald Touring Ltd, made a profit of £2.5m for the period up to April 2016.

The combined profits of the firms are more than £1m down on the previous year’s figures but they are still boasting healthy bank balances.

The accounts, filed at Companies House, also show that the singer has an investment portfolio worth £2.9 million.

She is the sole director of the firms and her mother, Josechief phine, an accountant, acts as the company secretary.

Macdonald has spent the past few months in the studio working on her fourth album, Under Stars, which will be released in February and she will launch a European tour next year.

The 29-year-old, from Bishopbriggs in East Dunbartonshire, has released three albums since bursting on to the music scene in 2007.

Her records have sold millions of copies and she has become a massive star in European countries such as Germany and Denmark, as well as the UK.

Macdonald set up the firms more than nine years ago soon after signing her first record deal, and has also not been shy in splashing out on luxury items with her royalty cash.
