Gangland murder suspect is taken back to States

-

A GANGLAND murder suspect who fled to Scotland from the US after allegedly shooting dead a rival has been returned to his homeland to face trial.

Sheppard Adeghe had fought moves to extradite him back to America after he was arrested in Edinburgh last September.

Officers from Police Scotland took Adeghe into custody when he was discovered in the city. US police believe he had friends in Scotland who were helping him hide out.

He was flown from Scotland to Newark Liberty International Airport on Wednesday in the custody of FBI agents.

The 25-year-old has been charged with the murder of Elias Flores, 19, in Yonkers, New York state, on August 10 last year.

Flores’ body had been found dumped outside a hospital in the city with gunshot wounds to his chest and arm and he could not be saved by medics.

Local detectives identified Mr Adeghe as the suspect and a probe involving the FBI and the US Department of Homeland Security discovered he had made the 3,200-mile journey to Scotland.

He took a flight to Holland before catching a plane to Scotland before he was arrested on September 2.

His extradition back to the US to face a second-degree murder charge was approved following a hearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court and has now taken place after the decision was ratified by the Scottish government.

Following Mr Adeghe’s return to the US, Westchester district attorney Anthony Scarpino thanked authorities in Scotland for their help in tracking him down.
