Man guilty of ‘senseless’ murder
A SLOVAKIAN has been convicted of the “senseless” murder of a 68-year-old man who was well known in his community in Glasgow.
Gordon Bolam, of Pollokshields, was stabbed and strangled with a fabric ligature by Imrich Joni, 20, in July last year.
Joni, who has previous convictions for violence and dishonesty and was on bail at the time, concealed Mr Bolam’s remains in a bedroom wardrobe.
He also tried to destroy DNA evidence at the flat and on his clothing.
After he was convicted following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, Judge Lady Scott said sentence would be deferred until next month when he would be jailed for life.
Senior investigating officer, Detective Inspector Mark Henderson, said: “This was a vicious and senseless murder of a vulnerable and friendly elderly gentlemen who was well known in the community by an individual who was determined to end [his] life.”
