Victims tell court of knife attacks

-

A STUDENT has described how she was one of three people allegedly stabbed by man in separate incidents on the same day in Glasgow.

Fiona Robertson, 22, wept as she gave evidence to the High Court in Glasgow against Edward Coyle, who is claimed to have carried out the attacks on March 15 last year.

Mr Robertson said that as he struck her in the Merchant City, she pushed him off and ran into the road.

She added: “I was in quite a bit of shock. I did not know what to do.” She remembered seeing “holes” in her clothes and that Mr Coyle had “pulled something out of his pocket” during the attack, but could not recall what it was.

Another alleged victim, Paul Sweeney, 44, said he was stabbed in the chest as he returned to his car in Gorbals that evening.

He said that a man in a red jacket suddenly approached him, did not say anything, and stabbed him. Mr Sweeney said he responded by saying: “You stabbed me, you b ****** . The witness, who was left scarred, told how the attack has resulted in him suffering a “loss in confidence”. Alberto Sanchez , 29, also recalled being stabbed in the arm earlier by a man who came running towards him.

The wounded supermarket worker said he was left in a “puddle of blood.’ Again, the court heard the man said nothing to him.

Mr Coyle, 50, denies attempting to murder Mr Sweeney, assaulting Mr Sanchez and Miss Robertson and attempting to murder a woman two days later.
