Camper company creates 22 jobs after expansion

- MARGARET TAYLOR

GLASGOW campervan conversion and hire company Rockin Vans has created 22 new jobs after expanding its meet and greet service to London’s Heathrow Airport.

Run by brothers Callum and Frazer Johnson, the firm specialises in hiring out Volkswagen campervans to holidaymakers.

It meets renters at a variety of locations, including Glasgow, Edinburgh and Gatwick airports, and having added Heathrow to its list it has tripled its fleet from 15 to 45 vehicles.

It has also created 22 new jobs spread across all its locations, two of which are apprenticeships. In addition to taking on additional drivers to drop off and pick up the vehicles, the firm has hired a number of sales and marketing people and cabinet makers.

As well as its rental service, Rockin Vans designs and converts Volkswagen motorhomes to sell through its subsidiary RV Campers. This work is led by Frazer, who is a trained cabinet maker who previously worked at Pinewood Studios.

The brothers set up the firm in 2008 with Callum, who studied business management at Dundee University and previously ran a chain of juice bars taking responsibility for the management side while Frazer handles the conversion work.

Having both travelled through North America and Australasia in campervans, the pair said they first became interested in the vehicles after travelling through Europe with their family in one as children.

“Hiring a motorhome and setting out on your own adventure whether it’s here in the UK or if your heading off to Europe, where you have the freedom and flexibility to tour, park up and enjoy what different places have to offer is becoming more and more popular every year,” said Callum.

“What you can see, experience and wake up to every day, whether it’s beautiful beaches, mountains or cities, is destined to be a great adventure filled with long-lasting memories, many of them we can relate to first hand.”
