US coaxed to change stance
THERESA May has said she will continue to encourage Donald Trump to “find a way back” into the Paris Agreement on climate change.
After Mrs May gave MPs an update following the G20 summit, Labour’s Christian Matheson said: “I welcome the Prime Minister’s indication that she wants to coax the United States back into the Paris Agreement. So will she consider strengthening her negotiating hand by suggesting to President Trump that there will be no negotiations on a free trade deal until they come back into the deal, or is securing a free trade deal with the United States more important than securing the future of the planet?”
Mrs May replied: “I am encouraging President Trump, as are others, to find a way back.”
