Bomb team clears flares from beach

-

A BOMB disposal team has removed potentially unstable 10-year-old flares that were found on a beach.

A member of the public raised the alarm after discovering them at Greshonish on the Isle of Skye at on Sunday.

The flares expired in 2007 and were considered potentially unstable because of their age and due to the fact they had been in water, the coastguard said.

The Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Faslane were called to the scene and removed the flares on Sunday evening to dispose of them safely.

Police said the beach was then re-opened to the public.

The area hit the headlines in November when 95,400 salmon were killed at Marine Harvest’s Loch Greshornish farm when fish were treated for lice with a device called a Thermolicer.
