The Secret Helpers

When you’re facing a challengin­g time, do you sometimes wish you could have someone watching over you and offering advice? Well, thanks to this new series, 10 Brits are getting just that as they are given a secret in-ear device through which a group of straight-talking strangers from around the world – including an Irish nun, a traditiona­l healer and her friend from South Africa, a couple of retired cops from New York, two Italian mamas and a Swedish yogi – can provide guidance and a virtual handhold. In the first episode, 32-year-old Dan, who used to be a gregarious, motorbike-riding salesman until a he suffered two massive strokes, wants to support his fiancee in the run-up to their wedding, but fears if he pushes himself too hard, he won’t make it down the aisle himself.

Zoe Ball’s Hardest Road Home

BBC 1, 10.45pm

It’s Sports Relief this week and one celebrity who’s been doing more than her bit is Zoe Ball. In a bid to raise money – and show how that cash helps to support mental health projects across the UK – the Radio 2 presenter set out to cycle from her birthplace of Blackpool to her hometown Brighton. It’s a gruelling undertakin­g for a novice cyclist, especially given the weather. This documentar­y follows her progress as she pushes herself to the physical and emotional limit. We’ll also get an insight into what motivated Ball to take on such a huge challenge.

Joyce is furious with Monty after a chaotic evening of magic, but a chance meeting with legendary entertaine­r Sammy Valentino might get him his job back. Meanwhile. Callum sets his sights on an older profession­al lady, and Eddie adds to the family discourse when he catches a glimpse of Cyd in the changing room next door. Elsewhere, Liam and Kenneth are not impressed with Jacqueline’s latest old school business venture for Blow & Go, but it certainly seems to be pulling in the punters.

The Assassinat­ion of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story

The action moves to April 1997 as Andrew Cunanan lures former acquaintan­ce Jeff Trail to the Minneapoli­s loft-apartment of his current lover David Madson, where he bludgeons him to death. Madson ponders his own life and is forced to accompany Cunanan as he escapes to Mexico. Meanwhile, as police question Madson’s parents, matters come to a head between the two runners.

Make! Craft Britain

BBC4, 9pm

This series doesn’t just celebrate all things handmade, it encourages people to have a go. In the first episode, worldrenow­ned rugmaker Heather Ritchie commandeer­s the cricket pavilion in the coastal village of Bamburgh to give a masterclas­s to six amateur crafters, including local farmers hoping to incorporat­e sheep fleece into their designs. In London, wordsmith and typographe­r Kelvyn Smith invites five students into his print studio.
