Recruitment business Sthree commits to creating 300 Glasgow jobs

- KEVIN SCOTT

RECRUITMENT business Sthree is to create more than 300 jobs in Glasgow, with 200 of those coming this year at a new Centre of Excellence which will bring together the group’s support services.

The London-based recruiter specialises in the STEM industries (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and operates across 40 offices, in 16 countries around the world.

Sthree’s chief financial officer Alex Smith said that investing in Glasgow gave the London-listed group access to a “highly-skilled workforce and an excellent business infrastructure”.

Last year, Sthree boosted profits to £37.7m on revenue of £1.1 billion.

The investment is being supported by £2m of Regional Selective Assistance funding from Scottish Enterprise, which will see Sthree create a total of 314 new jobs for Glasgow over the next three years.

Mr Smith said the company had been given “tremendous support” from the Scottish Government and Scottish Development International. He added: “With this move, we also look forward to extending to Glasgow the actions of the Sthree Foundation, which helps youth from underprivileged and diverse backgrounds get into the STEM industries.

Paul Lewis, interim chief executive of Scottish Enterprise said: “It’s fantastic to see a company like Sthree, with a strong focus on STEM industries, expanding in Scotland.

Councillor Susan Aitken, leader of Glasgow City Council and City Convener for Inclusive Economic Growth, said the move will further enhance the city’s reputation and attractiveness as a key location in these important economic sectors, and would help to bring even more high-quality jobs to the city.
