Chamber of Commerce and The Herald tie up again for this year’s Inspiring City Awards
THE Herald and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce are delighted to be once again working with Glasgow’s award-winning city brand – People Make Glasgow – to host this year’s Inspiring City Awards, celebrating and rewarding the people and organisations that make Glasgow great!
Glasgow has a long and distinguished history of innovators, pioneers and traders who have made their mark on the world stage.
Previous winners have included, Glasgow Women’s Library, Allied Vehicles, Homeless World Cup, Glasgow Film Festival, Glasgow City Football Club, Laura Muir, DWF, Centre for Contemporary Arts, Scottish Water and citizenm Glasgow.
Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “From the outset, the Inspiring City Awards has recognised some remarkable people that work tirelessly for Glasgow – from improving our communities to enhancing our international reputation – which is why the city is delighted to be continuing its support for such an important event as it enters its sixth year.
Working in partnership with Glasgow’s award winning city brand – People Make Glasgow and our event partners, Developing the Young Workforce, Glasgow Airport, Glasgow Caledonian University, Glasgow Taxis, Glasgow Welcomes, Hacking and Paterson Management and Glasgow Fort we will reward individuals and organisations who have gone beyond the call of duty over the past year to encourage, mentor and support investment and growth in Glasgow.
Glasgow Chamber of Commerce chief executive Stuart Patrick said: “It’s fitting that two of the city’s most trusted and respected institutions are joining forces with the city’s award-winning People Make Glasgow brand to celebrate the people and organisations which contribute freely to the culture and economy of the city.”
The fifteen categories include business, education, arts, culture and sport. New is the Young Persons Award sponsored by Glasgow Fort.
Glasgow Taxis Ltd executive committee, chairman Stephen Flynn said: “We are very proud to continue our support of the Inspiring City Awards. Glasgow and its people continue to exceed expectations. There’s a real buzz around the city and it is quite clearly thriving both culturally and economically.”
Derek Provan, chief executive of Glasgow Airport’s parent company AGS Airports Ltd, said: “As Scotland’s leading long-haul airport, we meet regularly with airlines from across the globe to discuss the introduction of new routes and promote Glasgow as a visitor destination.
“What remains critical to the decision-making process of any airline is a destination’s story and our city certainly has a fascinating one to tell”.
Entrants have until July 18 to submit their online submission.
Entry is free and all categories are open to individuals, businesses and third sector organisations.
