Loki signs deal with major publisher
SCOTTISH rapper and writer Darren Mcgarvey, also known as Loki, has signed a two-book deal with Ebury, a non-fiction wing of Penguin Random House.
The Glaswegian commentator, broadcaster and author has just won the 2018 Orwell Prize for his first book Poverty Safari, published by Luath Press of Edinburgh.
Deputy Publisher Andrew Goodfellow said: ‘Poverty Safari is one of the most raw and inspiring books I’ve read in some while. At a time of entrenched tribalism Darren brings a rich, experiential perspective on social deprivation that views the issues of personal wellbeing and social politics as utterly inseparable.”
Mcgarvey has a Poverty Safari Live starting on August 3 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
He said: “I remain in a state of slight disbelief about the success of Poverty Safari.
“It’s due to be republished by Picador, in partnership with Luath Press, on August 9, in conjunction with the live show version at the Fringe.
“The deal with Penguin – while totally unexpected if I’m honest – comes at a time when the security of my young family lies at the forefront of my mind.
“It’s a great honour and privilege to be working with Ebury and I would just like to express gratitude to everyone who has been supporting both the book and my work, generally.” www.penguinrandomhouse.co.uk
