A good year for the roses

-

DESPITE some heavy rain showers, International Rose Trials judge Jim Hunter described the standard of blooms at this year’s competition in Glasgow as exceptional.

Mr Hunter, 85, from Edinburgh, said: “The standard of the park and the roses this year was amazing and all the roses were looking really well.

“I think they have been exceptionally good this year because of the lovely warm weather we have had.

“We judged 30 different variety of roses this year, from all over the world.”

The event is being held in Tollcross Park, with 95 judges descending on the SITE to judge more than 4,200 roses in 16 beds.

Mr Hunter, who worked on Rose beds as a boy, has been judging the annual event in Glasgow for 30 years.
