Murder toll hits 100 this year

DETECTIVES have launched the 100th murder investigation in London this year after a 73-year-old woman discovered dead following a house fire was found to have been assaulted.

Police say Carole Harrison’s body was found in her house in Teddington following a blaze in the early hours of Wednesday.

A post-mortem at Kingston Mortuary failed to establish a cause of death and further tests are to be conducted.

However, police say she had suffered injuries consistent with an assault

It is the sixth murder inquiry launched in the UK capital in a week and the 10th this month.
