Man who said he would ‘rise from the dead’ and kill judge is jailed

-

A MAN has been jailed for threatening to kill a sheriff in a court room after being convicted at the end of a trial.

Becklyn Mindjou, 27, was found guilty of a string of charges, including breaches of the peace, by sheriff Gerard Bonnar on March 29 at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

Mindjou slammed his hand on the dock and started yelling incoherent words. He shouted “Are you the judge?” then shouted “I will rise from the dead and I will kill you”.

He was remanded in custody at the end of the trial.

Two days earlier he had to be removed from the court during his trial for shouting and causing a disturbance.

He was convicted by a jury yesterday at the same court for behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and threatening to kill sheriff Bonnar, to the fear and alarm of others in the court.

In an unusual course of action, Mindjou’s current trial was heard in his absence.

After delivering their verdict, sheriff Kenneth Hogg explained to the jury this was in case of “any potential behaviour” and to ensure that he got a fair trial.

Mindjou was brought into the court to hear his sentence and repeatedly shouted at the sheriff and slammed his hand on the dock, but stayed silent as sheriff Kenenth Hogg jailed him for 296 days.

Defence counsel Edith Forrest said she had “little to say in mitigation” and it was in the interest of justice that Mindjou was in the court to hear his sentence.
