Man appears in court charged with stalking MP
A MAN has appeared in court accused of stalking a Scottish MP.
Dr Lisa Cameron, 46, is said to have received messages on social media that were of an offensive and menacing nature from John Mccabe, 54.
It is further claimed he posted photographs of the SNP member and a letter she had written on his behalf on social media.
Police were called in after the MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow, representative was alleged to have been left in a state of fear and alarm by the messages.
Mr Mccabe, of East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, was arrested and yesterday appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court, where he denied a charge of stalking earlier this month.
He was bailed by Sheriff Ray Small, who barred him from contacting or approaching Ms Cameron and banned him from visiting her constituency office.
Mr Mccabe is set to return to court next year for a preliminary hearing into the allegations.
Ms Cameron qualified as a clinical psychologist before being elected to Westminster in the 2015 General Election.
She took the seat from Scottish Labour for the first time since 1974 with a majority of more than 16,000.
In the 2017 General Election, she was re-elected but with a reduced majority of 3,866.
