Mural tribute to Stan Lee
A NEW mural featuring some of comic genius Stan Lee’s greatest characters has popped up in Gorbals.
The Glasgow artwork was created by Danny Mcdermott who is better known by his street artist name EJEK. It features 22 superheroes including Spider-man, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk and
The X-men.
The painting can be viewed on the Barn Youth Centre wall in Cumberland Street.
Street artist Danny also teaches art to young people at the youth centre, which is run by Crossroads Youth and Community Association.
He was one of the artists who contributed to the Clutha art project which features images of Billy Connolly, Jimmy Reid and Spike Milligan on the the walls of the tragedy-hit pub. The tribute to Lee comes after his death, aged 95, last month.
Lee created The Fantastic Four for Marvel Comics in 1961 and went on to create titles including Spider-man and The Incredible Hulk.
He was also known for making a cameo in almost every Marvel film.
Despite leaving Marvel in 1972, he remained chairman emeritus.
Danny was also involved in the mural on the side of the Clutha bar where famous fans have been depicted on the walls of the pub where a helicopter crash claimed 10 lives.
Images of celebrities including Billy Connolly, Jimmy Reid and Spike Milligan have all been recreated in a black and white wrap around scene at the pub. The project, which will also feature images of Frank Zappa, Alex Harvey and John Martyn, is being led by gallery Art Pistol.
