Children’s funniest joke? Why was the sand wet... because a seaweed

THE top 10 funniest jokes of all time according to children have been revealed by Britain’s longest-running comic, The Beano.

Research commission­ed by the comic comes ahead of the launch of its national joke competitio­n to find the funniest primary school class in the country.

The survey of 2,000 British children aged from seven to12-years-old showed that classic jokes have stood the test of time, with timeless gags such as “What do you call a blind dinosaur? Do youth inkh esau r us” and “Doctor, Doctor! Help, I feel like a pair of curtains! Pull yourself together then!” featuring in the top 10.

In Scotland, children ranked “Why was the sand wet? Because the sea weed!” as the funniest joke of all time.

Moreover, 40 per cent of Scottish children surveyed said their dad was the funniest person in their family, while 25% said their mum told the worst jokes. More than nine in 10 (93%) said children are funnier than adults, while more than six in 10 (61%) of Scottish children said they heard the best jokes in the classroom and playground.

Mike Stirling, editorial director, said: “The hunt to find the UK’S funniest primary school-class is on. Beano is encouragin­g pupils up and down the country to put forward their very best jokes and gags to be in with a chance of being crowned Britain’s funniest class.”
