Manhunt for knife rapist after attack

-

A MANHUNT has been launched after a young woman was raped at knifepoint on urban wasteland.

The woman, 20, was walking alone at about 8pm on Tuesday when she was approached by a man of about the same age who threatened her at knifepoint.

The suspect, who appeared to be high on drink and drugs, then forced himself on the woman and subjected her to a “terrifying ordeal” in Methil, in Fife.

He was described as white, around 20-years-old, 5ft 8ins tall with a medium build, light-brown wavy hair and wearing a dark waterproof jacket and dark tracksuit bottoms.

The victim managed to escape and sought help on an industrial estate. A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “A 20-yearold woman has been walking in Herriot Crescent and on to Kirkland Road when a man approached and presented a knife at her before forcing her on to an area of wasteland where she was attacked.”

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Cunningham said: “This has been a terrifying ordeal for the young woman that has left her deeply distressed.

“We are providing her with all the support and assistance she requires while we investigate this very serious incident.

“Our inquiry is being supported by uniformed officers, who are conducting high-visibility patrols within Methil to offer reassurance to the public, as well as colleagues from specialist national divisions.

“We also have a very good description.”
