BOTTOM LINE

The Herald Business Diary

Carry on cruising IT is perhaps the most obvious question to ask a travel agent, and The Bottom Line did not disappoint.

In the first press interview to be given by Jacqueline Dobson since she became president of Glasgow-based Barrhead Travel, we naturally asked where she most likes to go on holiday.

“My favourite city is San Francisco and I love cruising,” replied Ms Dobson, who has been with Barrhead since 2000. “I have a 16-year-old and he has been to more than 50 countries because I love cruising. It’s a great education.”

Sounds like we need to get out and about more.

Leadership drive

A NEW initiative to promote female business leadership has been launched in Inverclyde.

Women’s Enterprise Scotland (WES) has teamed up with Riverside Inverclyde to run the six-month programme, which will be the first of its kind in the region. It is aimed at business owners and entrepreneurs who are looking to develop their capabilities and develop sustainable organisations. It is also aimed at female home-based business owners looking to improve their confidence and progress their businesses to the next level.

The scheme gets under way with a workshop at Ladyburn Business Centre in Greenock on February 27. Three further workshops will follow on April 24, June 12 and August 28, with the events supplemented by online content and support.

Poonam Gupta, founder of local firm PG Paper and WES ambassador said: “Regeneration in

Inverclyde is something I am very keen to continue being involved with and this leadership programme is an excellent opportunity for local women to unlock ideas and talents that can add value to their business and to their lives.” Brexit banter

THIS Brexit business is obviously a matter of grave national importance. But it does not mean we cannot have a little fun along the way.

We particularly liked this tweet from Otto English, who evoked the “name” of one of Hollywood’s top acting stars by posting a picture of two prominent Brexiters.

We will never look at the Academy Award-winning actor Reese Witherspoon the same way again…

Sky meets art GLASGOW’S Skypark is to launch its latest art exhibition this evening.

Seana Doherty and Carla Faulkner, who specialise in painting outdoors in all weathers, will become the latest artists to showcase their work at the business park’s “donated gallery”. It is one of a series of initiatives Skypark offers to encourage tenants to come together and enjoy life beyond work.

Angela Higgins, strategic lettings advisor, said: “Our donated gallery space was established in 2011, to give the artistic community the chance to reach a working audience and to complement our tenant art classes. Monthly exhibitions have featured work by Lesley Banks, and first editions of the Beano and Broons by Dudley D Watkins.”

Ms Higgins added: “We welcome new exhibition ideas from up and coming”.
