Couple seeing spike in sales of seagull device

- JAMES HAMILTON

A COUPLE are set to make millions after inventing a new “humane” way to deter seagulls.

Husband and wife team David and Kursty Jones have created two new spike products to attach around chimney pots or directly to roof ridges that stop seagulls landing without hurting them.

They already employ 15 staff and have a list of high profile customers already including the Oval Cricket Ground, the London Olympic Stadium, and St Paul’s Cathedral. They are hoping their latest two inventions – known as the Defender Roof Ridge Bird Spike and the Defender Chimney Pot Bird Spike – will see them break through the £2 million a year turnover mark.

They have already sold 5,000 in advance of the new products going on sale. David said: “The shrieking noise and droppings blocking gutters can be extremely upsetting for owners but I believe we must learn to live alongside the birds.”
