1 Menopause the Musical
Motherwell Concert Hall, Motherwell
Until tomorrow
This hysterical show packed full of one-liners about night sweats, hot flashes and memory loss is backed by an instantly recognisable soundtrack of innuendo-laden versions of
‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s pop classics. An all-singing, all-dancing comedy set in a department store. Four women with seemingly nothing in common meet by chance and make fun of their woeful lives experiencing “The Change.” They soon bond as they realise that the menopause is no longer “The Silent Passage,” but an unavoidable stage in every woman’s life. Visit culturenl. co.uk for tickets.
The show will be at Glasgow’s King’s Theatre on Monday.
2 The Dark Carnival

Until March 2
A music and theatre spectacle, The Dark Carnival features 16 performers and musicians. They tell the story of newcomers to the afterlife who discover death is not actually the end. Incredulous at their continuity, they form their own necropolitan community where every night is party night: songs get sung, love gets made and whisky flows. Above the ground, the cemetery brims with life. But a mysterious event throws the lives of the living into uncertainty. The Dark Carnival will transport audiences into an unexpected vision of the afterlife full of long-lost lovers, half-hearted ghosts, and songs.

After her travelling companion suddenly disappears, Iris is perplexed to find that all the other passengers deny ever having seen her. With the help of urbane musician Max, she turns detective and together they become drawn into a complex web of European intrigue as they try to solve the mystery of why the lady vanished. A quick-witted and devilishly fun thriller.

7 BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
Perth Concert Hall
Tomorrow
The Perth Concert Series is a joint promotion between the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with Horsecross Arts. The opening melody of Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony soars majestically towards the heavens. Bruckner told once how it came to him in a dream, played by an angel but when Ilan Volkov brings his searching musical intelligence and emotional insight to bear on this monumental “cathedral in sound,” the results might well be revelatory.
Book tickets via horsecross.co.uk.

10 ‘Silva’ by Chris Thomas
John Muir’s Birthplace,
Dunbar
Until March 24
The importance of trees and woodland as part of a sustainable, richly-biodiverse and resilient future environments is wellrecognised, but our attachment goes beyond this. Arising from his own fascination with trees and woodlands, Chris’ sequence of black and white film photographs seeks to invite visitors to the exhibition to reflect upon the “being” of trees and woods, their “essence” expressed in their architectures, textures and forms, the way they create light and shade and space, how these phenomena change daily, or through the seasons, and how we respond.
Free admission.
