Ilincic will ‘bring valuable commerical and retail skillset’ after appointmen­t to British Wool board

FARMING BRITISH Wool has appointed a new non-executive director, Marko Ilincic, to its board.

Mr Ilincic has most recently been an executive board member for The LEGO Group, responsibl­e for setting global strategy and leadership direction for the company, whilst concurrent­ly serving as senior vice-president for the Asia Pacific region.

Commenting on the new appointmen­t, Trevor Richards, chairman, said “I’m delighted to welcome Marko to the British Wool team. He has worked for a very successful global brand at leadership level for over 20 years, and brings a valuable commercial and retail skillset to our team, along with considerab­le strategic experience. Marko has also been personally responsibl­e for driving internatio­nal growth in Asia – a key target market for British Wool.”

Market round-up

MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 14 prime heifers at Ayr on Tuesday to a top of £1,316.70 per head and 231p/kg to average £1163.82 and 213p, while one prime bullock sold for £1,055.45 and 209p. One young bull sold for £914.50 and 155p.

In the rough ring 48 beef cows sold to £1,260 and 152.7p to average 114.6p, while 54 dairy cows peaked at £900 and 108.4p to level at 86.7p. Two bulls sold to £1,280 and 130p to average 103p, while four clean OTM cattle peaked at £860 and 144.5p to level at 124.5p. The only dairy animal forward was a Holstein Friesian heifer which sold for £1,700.

Harrison and Hetheringt­on Ltd sold 26 store heifers in Lockerbie on Tuesday to a top of £1,110 and 217.4p/ kg and an average of 175p (-14p), while 108 store bullocks peaked at £1,050 and 275.9p to level at 174.8p (-1.5p), while a single young bull sold for £900 and 214p.

C&D Auction Marts Ltd had forward an entry of 2,680 store hoggs and feeding ewes at Longtown on Tuesday. Best Beltex and Texel hoggs all sold to over £80 to a top of £90 for a single Beltex. Texels sold to £86; Suffolks to £73.50, Greyfaces to £72.50, Blackfaces to £67.50,

North Cheviots to £78, Hill Cheviots to £70 and Swaledales to £47. The 290 Feeding ewes sold to a top of £71 for a Texel.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 838 prime hoggs forward at their weekly sale in Newton Stewart yesterday. Top prices on the day were £95 for a pair of heavyweigh­t Beltexs and 204 p/kg for Texel crosses with the overall average levelling at 180.4p (-5p on the week). The 405 Blackface prime hoggs in the sale averaged 178.4 p/ kg and peaked at £90 per head for heavyweigh­ts and 191.4 p/kg for lightweigh­ts.

A smaller show of cast sheep this week saw 112 heavy ewes sell to £102 for Texels and average £56.56, while 155 light/export-type ewes peaked at £54 for Blackfaces and levelled at £37.94.
