Six years in prison for sex attacks

-

A SEX attacker who carried out a string of serious offences has been jailed for six years.

Kevin Milne, 36, from the Aberdeen area, admitted committing the offences when he appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh last year.

However, sentencing judge Lord Glennie initially imposed a blanket ban on reporting the attacker’s case.

The Herald and other media outlets lodged a joint challenge against the reporting restriction and Milne can now finally be named, although the full extent of his offending remains under wraps.

During sentencing, Lord Glennie told Milne he would have jailed him for nine years for the sex offences, but for his early guilty pleas.

The judge said: “I am satisfied that in this case there is no realistic alternative to a lengthy prison sentence.”

He also told him: “I propose to take steps for the protection of the public to ensure that on release you will be subject to a long period of supervision.”

The judge directed that he should be under monitoring and supervision for a further four years.

Lord Glennie also pointed out that the offender could not explain or identify “the driving forces” that caused him to commit the crimes.

Defence counsel Craig Findlater told the court that programmes aimed at making changes would be available to Milne during his “inevitable” prison sentence and he would engage with them.

Milne was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
