Sainsbury’s embarks on an ambitious makeover of its store in Hedge End, Southampto­n, with manager Becky and her team eager not to lose precious custom while the refurbishm­ent takes place. At head office, two new food brands – a chorizo snack and a fresh fruit tea – are being trialled across 70 stores, while in retail, plans are under way for this year’s Christmas campaign.

Channel 4, 8pm

Rylan Clark-neal presents the second edition of the show in which people with ideas for the perfect festive gift pitch their products. In each programme, the sellers are given just 90 seconds to demonstrat­e their product to an audience of 100 potential customers who each hold a voting handset. If the innovators manage to impress at least one of the shoppers, they then get a chance to pitch to a panel of three retailers – Amazon Launchpad, Lakeland and JML – who can make a potentiall­y lifechangi­ng bulk order. The last series saw Sylvia from Sutton scoop an order with a retail value of £225,175 for her nifty solution for tired, sore feet. Will there be similar success stories tonight?

Celebrity Dogs Behaving

Channel 5, 8pm

Dog trainer Graeme Hall attempts to help three stars whose pets are giving them grief. First stop is Essex, where Denise van Outen’s pampered pooch Tilly actually gets fed via a silver spoon. Denise and boyfriend Eddie are concerned that the French bulldog’s habit of running out the door whenever she gets the chance will leave her a casualty of the high street. Graeme also meets rescue saluki Poppy, whose fear of other dogs is stressing out Russell Watson and wife Louise.

Gino’s Italian Express

STV, 8.30pm

Gino D’acampo visits the jewel of the Italian Riviera – the Cinque Terre – five towns that are only accessible by boat or train. He begins in the smallest town, Corniglia, where he meets an opera-singing florist, before hopping on the train to Manarola and the dry-stone wallers responsibl­e for keeping the towns from crumbling into the sea. He also goes to Vernazza, where Gino meets wine producers who work 1,000m above sea level to tend to their vines.

What Makes a Murderer

Channel 4, 9pm

In 1993, Anthony Powell was working as a gang enforcer in south London. One night he was sent to collect a debt that resulted in him shooting dead a man with a sawn-off shotgun. He was convicted of murder and served more than 21 years behind bars. Now, in an episode focusing on the factors behind gang-related crime, Anthony submits himself to biological and psychologi­cal tests to determine whether he truly had control over his actions or if a combinatio­n of hidden factors made him destined to kill. Last in the series.
