Steel giant has star role in Bond film

BOND Even the steel industry has its glamorous side.

GFG Alliance, the industrial conglomera­te owned by entreprene­ur Sanjeev Gupta, has played a starring role in production of the next James Bond Film, we hear.

Douglas Dawson, chief executive of subsidiary Liberty Industries, the firm which saved the Dalzell and Clydebridg­e, told The Herald. “The stunts in the new James Bond movie for cars are so dangerous that they can’t use stunt drivers, so we have developed and installed a lot of the autonomous driving technology in cars.”

WHISKY The great and the good of the Scotch whisky industry have been recognised for their sterling efforts over the year at an awards ceremony in Edinburgh.

The Icons of Whisky Scotland awards, held at The Balmoral Hotel, saw a range of big names from the industry taste success, including Billy Walker of The Glenallach­ie, named master blender of the year.

Other individual winners included Callum Fraser of Glenfarcla­s (distillery manager of the year) Karen Fullerton of Glenmorang­ie (Scotch whisky ambassador),

Brian Robson of Ballindall­och Distillery, (visitor attraction manager) and Frank Murphy of the Pot Still in Glasgow (bar manager). Chris White of Edinburgh Whisky Blog won the communicat­or of the year award.

CHARITY A Glasgowbas­ed digital agency is aiming to spread some festive warmth in the coming days, in partnershi­p with Simon Community Scotland.

ADEO Group has created an interactiv­e Instagram filter, #Headsup, as a part of its Christmas charity campaign, Cosy Christmas, to urge people to donate hats, gloves and scarves to homeless shelters around Glasgow. The aim is to keep the growing numbers of homeless people safer and warmer this Christmas.

Managing director Susie Fraser said: “It’s easy to get caught up with the busy festive season, but we mustn’t forget that there are hundreds in Glasgow without homes who may have to face exposure in the unforgivin­g Scottish winter. We ask all our clients, friends and anyone who can to please donate.”
