A 10-YEAR-OLD schoolgirl has died after being run over by an ambulance responding to a 999 call.

Shaniqua Loftmansmith was taken to hospital in a critical condition after the incident in Bulwell, Nottingham, on Sunday December 22.

Nottinghamshire Police said Shaniqua was a pedestrian and the ambulance was responding to an emergency at the time of the collision in Low Wood Road, between Hempshill Lane and Seller’s Wood Drive at 6.30pm.

Despite the best efforts of medics Shaniqua died from her injures, police confirmed yesterday.

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) said they offered their “deepest condolences” to the girl’s family and were co-operating with a police investigation.

EMAS chief executive Richard Henderson said: “I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the patient’s family at this very difficult time, and my thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident.

“We continue to fully co-operate with the police in their investigation into what happened, and therefore it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this time.”
