Macaskill on Indyref2

Kenny Macaskill has said the chance of Nicola Sturgeon getting a second independence referendum this year is likely to be “nil”. The MP has urged the SNP to work rapidly with other parties to “build on the anger” felt in Scotland towards Boris Johnson’s new Tory government. He said the goal should be a united demand for Scottish independence, or at least unity on the right of the Scottish people to choose their own future saying: “It can be the basis to show the world that it’s not one party, but the people who are demanding it.”

“The truth is the referendum is not going to happen. That’s the message.

Being picky about how it’s reported doesn’t change it – settle down and enjoy what’s about to happen to the Union. Roll on the 31st...”

Allan Craig, heraldscotland.com

“As for Independence, it is clear, the SNP leadership has wasted opportunity after opportunity, and if they don’t start doing something positive for Independence, and stop asking London “permission” for doing anything, they will find they go the same way as Labour in this country, and be replaced by others who will get us Independence.

“This country cannot afford to be part of this colonial dictatorship any longer.”

Gordon Keane, heraldscotland.com

“As an indy supporter I reject the term “colonial dictatorship”. Scotland’s position in the UK is neither.

We accepted the 2014 decision of the people while expecting the UKG to respect our right to change our mind – at any time.

“There is no such thing as the settled will of the people and it is absurd (and dictatorial) to imagine any government making any decision that cannot be questioned and/or reversed.

The ‘once on a generation’ nonsense is for the birds”

Euan Leckie, heraldscotland.com

“230,000 more people voted for unionist parties last month than the SNP. Indy ain’t wanted.” Michael Mcgeachy, heraldscotland.com

“With a nationalist party in power the country has little choice other than to be continually paralysed with the Indy question.”

Stewart Short, heraldscotland.com

“If the First Minister does not use maximum effort this year to push for another referendum in mid Autumn, then the First Minister will find that we will start up a new party to force her hand.

Bernard Kilwinning, heraldscotland.com

“We have to have a referendum this year, because if we don’t people will see, as Brexit kicks in, what turmoil separation produces and who’d want another round of that?

So for Scotland to hold up her head among the nations again, which is the important thing, not the well-being of people, we need a referendum NOW.”

Paul Brownsy, heraldscotland.com

“The most welcome gift this year could bring would be the ‘Scottish Labour Party’ at last acknowledging the fact that their traditional voters, the ‘working class’ in Scotland, want Independence.

Let the SNP and Scottish labour shake hands on what is best for the Scottish people. Now that would leave the Tory Party here where they belong – on the scrap heap.” Maurice Gartshore, heraldscotland.com
