In the first episode, cameras focus on a female lieutenant training to become a captain, which involves taking control for 24 hours. Then, upon entering the Mediterranean, there’s an emergency when a crew member falls overboard into choppy waters. A desperate search begins to find him. Mary Beard’s Shock of the Nude

BBC2, 9pm

The classicist looks at an eclectic range of works to show how artists have challenged the idea of ‘the body beautiful’, and explores how artistic nudes can provoke viewers to consider fundamental questions about being human. Mary reflects on Marc Quinn’s sculpture of artist Alison Lapper, Sally Mann’s images of her own children in the 1990s and the controversy that surrounded their exhibition, and examines society’s shifting perception of gender, from the binary of male and female to a more fluid concept.

Inside No 9

BBC2, 10pm

Some fans of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith’s comedy anthology series may have wondered what they could possibly do to top last year’s ingenious live episode. But while that edition may have contained the kind of stunt it’s impossible to pull off twice, the new series is proving that they’re a long way from being out of ideas. It also helps that they are still attracting some impressive casts, including, in this episode, Queen Victoria herself, Jenna Coleman. She stars as Beattie who, along with her partner Sam (Kadiff Kirwan of Timewasters and This Way Up) is desperate to get on the property ladder.
