Cyclist stabbed in attack by eight men

A CYCLIST was stabbed and another injured after they were attacked by a group of men in Renfrewshi­re.

The two men were cycling near Nether Johnstone Small Holdings in Milliken Road, Kilbarchan, on Wednesday night when a group of up to eight men approached them.

The cyclists were injured following an altercatio­n, which police said appears to have been unprovoked, and were both taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment.

One man aged 37 suffered a number of serious injuries, including stab wounds, while the other aged 29 suffered facial injuries.

Police are appealing for informatio­n about the incident which happened at around 10.20pm on Wednesday.

Detective Inspector Ian Ross said: “This attack appears to have been unprovoked and we are carrying out extensive inquiries to identify those responsibl­e.

“Anyone who was in the area on Wednesday evening and may have seen or heard a disturbanc­e or who has any other informatio­n is urged to come forward.
