The Welsh Government has raised eyebrows after responding to a Conservati­ve politician’s formal question about UFOS in Star Trek language Klingon. Tory Welsh Assembly Member Darren Millar asked economy minister Edwina Hart whether any alien craft had been spotted over the skies of Cardiff Airport since it was brought back into public ownership. But the Clwyd West AM was surprised when he was given the reply: “jang vida je due luq. ‘ach ghotvam’e’ Qi’yah-devolved qas.”

Spanish captain Iker Casillas lifted the World Cup to the African night sky as all of Spain celebrated the first World Cup triumph in their history. And justice was done at the end of a match in which the Netherland­s should have lowered their heads in shame. South Africa did not deserve this. They did not deserve a final which made history with 14 yellow cards, two of them leading to a red for Everton defender John Heitinga – the most cards in the 80-year history of the tournament.

It was not the attendant PR which best illuminate­d Gazza’s new Ibrox career yesterday but the file of players shuffling from the front door of the stadium to a minibus to go to Pollok Park for training. Paul Gascoigne shuffled out, head bowed, among Mccoist, Ferguson, and Mccall. In the slow push forward between police barriers, while 100 weans screamed and waved football programmes to be signed, Gazza kept a tight hold of the ball. His possession could only be a sign of great moments to come.
