Starmer chat session

The leader of the Labour Party hosted an online chat session with people in shamed MP Margaret Ferrier’s constituency. Sir Keir Starmer held the “Call Keir” event today in Rutherglen and Hamilton West.

“The campaign for the by-election has started. It’s just a Skype call though and for sure it’s just jaded Labour activists who will attend.” Cameron Kennedy, heraldscotland.com

“Sturgeon and Blackford were the first to tell Ferrier she should resign. Clear leadership and doing the right thing – exactly what we expect to get from Sturgeon, and in fairness, what we do get.”

Alastair Campbell, heraldscotland.com

“Starmer reminds me of the minister in The Thick of It, pitching in here looking for an angle on this and a bit of positive coverage for Scottish Labour. He should tread very carefully. She’s doing an excellent job of undermining herself and the SNP without him messing it up. This is exactly the kind of ‘opportunity’ that blows up in your face.”

A B Dickson, heraldscotland.com

“Starmer: leader of a party which prioritises jobs, incomes and public services, and includes amongst its values solidarity and co-operation between people and peoples, not love of borders, division and ethnicity. There’s nothing progressive about nationalism?

Rob Zoutendijk, heraldscotland.com

“As a lifelong Labour Party supporter, I think Starmer may be the one to take us back to where we need to be?

Michael Mcgeachy, heraldscotland.com

“I don’t recall any Labour MPS (or MSPS for that matter) who in the first place strongly suspected they had Covid-19 (as a contact of a known Covid-19 victim she should have been isolating anyway), then travelled hundreds of miles on public transport, then got confirmation of Covid-19, and decided to go on the same transport.

“She should have contacted Blackford at the very least to see how she could self-isolate in London, as per the regulations. At this stage she was presumably fairly infectious. Presumably she wore a mask, but it would have been a non-medical one. Even the Covidiot Cummings went by car to the north east.”

Jackie Ogden, heraldscotland.com

“Shabby opportunist who pulls a sickie when there are difficult decisions to be made about backing the unlawful Internal Market Bill, but on spotting a weakness he’s off like a rat up a drainpipe.”

Elaine Gordon Stewart,

heraldscotland.com

“They were the main challengers at the last election to the SNP. It would be very strange if they didn’t start getting ready for a by-election.”

Nigel Boddy, heraldscotland.com

“Well done, Keir. I think her constituents will appreciate your visit especially as Sturgeon is reluctant to recall the SNP super spreader and hasn’t visited the constituency once!”

Rory Mcbride, heraldscotland.com

“I’m not a fan myself. Maybe he can explain why his party destroyed the Central Belt of Scotland and the Labour vote by taking all for granted.”

Andrew Lapping, heraldscotland.com

“So he ignores Tory MPS who did the exact same . What an absolute blue Labour weasel.”

John Davidson, heraldscotland.com

“Has the SNP Rutherglen and Hamilton West Branch asked Ferrier to resign? Is there such a branch? Have they been instructed to say nothing by someone ?

“At the end of the day it may be down to the local people to vote for Ferrier’s dismissal as an MP.” Andrew Mcmillan, heraldscotland.com

“Hopefully Sir Keir can update the callers on the half dozen or so Labour MPS who have also been caught flouting the restrictions down south.”

John Connor, heraldscotland.com
