Lockdown leak

Much of central Scotland is likely to be placed into lockdown this week, according to a leaked briefing provided to business chiefs.

“Well it looks as though Sturgeon is going to lock us all down. She should have locked Glasgow down the same as she did with Aberdeen but she was too frightened to upset her voters, votes appear to take priority.

“I don’t know if that decision cost lives or not. Nobody got this right. God knows why people think the Scottish Government did better than the UK Government when the death rates are the same and it has been the UK Government that has provided all the funding for furlough.” Stewart Macleod, heraldscotland.com

“We will wait and see if this leak is real and that’s the plan or if it is Holyrood’s SNP administration testing the water again.

“All these areas, with the exception of Stirling, should have been placed in lockdown prior to the introduction of our tier system. They should have been in tier four from the start.”

Nigel Fraser, heraldscotland.com

“There is no point in going into tier four without addressing the elephant in the room: schools.

“Schools are the Covid hubs at the moment. Pubs/restaurants have been shut, yet the ICU wards are unfortunately increasing in capacity.

“Kids come in, catch it, spread it around their ‘bubble’, then go into a variety of different classes/ subjects and do the same thing.

“Then they catch public transport, wear no mask and spread it more. Then they go home, spread it to their family/friends. This is not rocket science here. It is blindingly obvious.”

Alan Stewart, heraldscotland.com

“There is no immunity to Covid-19, please accept personal responsibility, wash hands, wear mask and keep a distance from others.

“It’s tragic that people refuse to share the responsibility for protecting the herd. Immunity won’t happen until there is a global, universal uptake on an effective vaccine. Quit whining about having a bit of disruption. None of us are risking life in flimsy boats escaping war zones.”

Johnson’s reset plans

The Prime Minister has vowed not to “veer off course” as he launches his new postCummings era in Government

“That Johnson could allow an adviser to instruct his government that a TV programme or station be boycotted tells us everything we need to know about this weak individual.

“What now – give interviews to C4 and allow ministers to appear on Newsnight when invited?

“Perhaps he’ll also stop dodging difficult interviewers himself now.”

Graham Smith, heraldscotland.com

“Clearly Cummings had over reached himself. Those who wield power become corrupted by it.” Graham Hanson, heraldscotland.com

Rest and be Thankful

The key road is to be out of action for longer than first thought as workers try to make it safe following two landslips.

“The contemplation of the Government’s 11 ‘corridor options’ is no substitute for getting a grip on ensuring a safe, reliable main road on the A83 route over the Rest and be Thankful.

“Argyll and Bute Council has opted for the ‘securing’ of a route on the existing corridor, and I think that public opinion is with them.

“The other options all involve far greater expenditure over much longer time scales – and in all cases appear to involve either substantially heavier traffic flows through existing towns or more northerly routes that would overload the primitive stretch of the A82 north of Tarbet, Loch Lomond.” Robert Wakeham, heraldscotland.com
