FOUR OF THE BEST The Great British Bake Off
Channel 4, 8pm
It’s the semi-final, and judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith seize the opportunity to test the four remaining bakers’ skills in patisserie – a type of Italian, French or Belgian bakery that specialises in pastries and sweets. First up, they face a booze–soaked signature which should be packed full of flavour, before peeking under the blue-andwhite gingham tea towels where they find the ingredients for a technical involving pastry horns. And finally, in the showstopper, the bakers must demonstrate finesse and precision on both a small and large scale. Their challenge is to create a cube made entirely from delicate, smaller cubeshaped cakes. So after all that, who will make it to next week’s final, who will be going home, and who will be awarded the Star Baker apron?
How to Spend It Well at Christmas with Phillip Schofield STV, 8.15pm
Back in March, Phillip Schofield’s How to Spend It Well on Holiday was pulled from the schedules in light of the coronavirus outbreak and the fact that very few of us were travelling. With most of our Christmas plans up in the air, let’s hope this festive show doesn’t suffer the same fate. As the nation gears up for Black Friday on November 27 and the Christmas shopping onslaught, Phillip presents a guide to toys. He visits a school to see if the classic Rubik’s Cube can compete with modern equivalents. Christopher Biggins plays the latest board games, Angellica Bell and Dallas Campbell look at new educational toys for different age ranges, and Matt Evers road tests inline skates.
Masterchef: The Professionals BBC1, 9pm
Which of tonight’s four chefs will impress judges Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace and proceed to Thursday’s quarter final? First, Marcus asks them to butcher a chicken, debone the thighs and cook them with asparagus and a brandy, mushroom and mustard cream sauce. Then, for Monica’s skills test, the two remaining chefs are asked to create a fruit tart filled with a berry compote, piped pistachio chantilly and candied pistachios. Finally, all four chefs are then given 90 minutes to prepare their own signature main and dessert.
