Make a date with Scotland’s wild side
STUNNING pictures showing Scotland’s lochs, seas and wildlife have been selected for a calendar marking a Year Of Coasts And Waters.
Naturescot appealed for treasured photographs to feature in the calendar and received more than 700 entries.
Francesca Osowska, the agency’s chief executive, said: “We were struck by the range of subjects captured – from underwater wildlife encounters to journeys through scenic waterscapes, spanning the length and breadth of Scotland, including our island treasures.”
Francesca said nature had been particularly important during what has been a tough year for many.
She said: “During lockdown, many people managed to enjoy nature close to home. Making space for nature in our lives, both physically and mentally, can make us happier and healthier.
“The fantastic range of images and stories submitted are testament to these strong connections with nature. Thank you to all who entered.”
Each of the 13 images showcase Scotland’s nature, with one on the front cover and the others allocated a designated month. As the YCW 2020 events programme was subject to cancellation, the YCW celebrations will continue into 2021.
Entrants were asked to provide a story or memory to accompany the image, connecting with the next Themed Year in planning being the Year Of Scotland’s Stories in 2022.
