Crowds watched as the Flying Scotsman passed through York ahead of its inaugural trip on the East Coast Main Line tomorrow. The locomotive has undergone a decade-long restoration prior to its return to its home, the National Railway Museum in York. In its first official outing bearing its name plates after the £4.2 million work, the 1923 engine will travel from King’s Cross to York. Initial repairs began in 2006, two years after the museum bought it for £2.3m.
