Pupils consider prosecution

-

FORMER pupils of Fettes College, in Edinburgh, who allege they were physically and sexually abused are considering a private prosecution after the Crown Office ruled it “not in the public interest’ to attempt to extradite a former teacher.

At least two men who claim they were abused at the junior school in the mid-1970s are considering taking the step after the Crown Office’s decision about trying to extradite an OAP accused of crimes from South Africa.

Highlands & Islands Labour MSP Rhoda Grant slammed the decision as “unbelievable” after getting involved on behalf of a constituent.

The Historic Abuse Unit at Thompsons Solicitors confirmed it was pursuing civil claims against the school on behalf of several survivors.

The school, which counts former prime minister Tony Blair among its alumni, promised to cooperate with authorities.

Horrific abuse allegations included a boy being taken into a changing room and beaten so badly he blacked out and needed medical treatment for 10 days.

Ms Grant said she had written to the Lord Advocate asking to be advised on the circumstances and for the matter to be reviewed.
