Cheap at the price: Deer Island goes for £300,000

-

AN uninhabited Scottish island that spans 11 acres has been sold for almost four times its £80,000 asking price.

An English buyer made the winning offer of £311,000 for Deer Island, which attracted hundreds of bidders when it went up for auction.

Sitting in the middle of beautiful Loch Moidart, in the west Highlands, Deer Island was on offer for less than a one-bedroom flat in Inverness. or Aberdeen or a garage in London.

Boasting neither a house nor amenities, the secluded space is covered in native woodland – something the new owner would have to care for and maintain.

Named in Gaelic as Eilean an Fheidh, the island was sold for the first time in centuries by Future Property Auctions. It had been owned by the same family for the past 500 years.

Situated near Castle Tioram, which is the traditional seat of the Macdonalds of Clanranald, the uninhabited plot of land will afford the mystery buyer unparalleled seclusion and privacy.

Auctioneers had said there is “zero chance of intrusion” on the island, which is around 45 miles from Fort William.

In total, there were

145 bidders vying to secure their own little part of the Highlands.

The auction listing stated: “The uninhabited island is located within an extremely popular sea loch, certain to appeal to investors from all over the world.”
