Messi’s historic boots go up for sale

-

A PAIR of boots worn by Lionel Messi to break the record for most goals for a single club is being sold at auction.

The footwear was used by the Barcelona icon to net his 644th goal for the club to overtake Pele to take the all-time top spot.

Messi donated them to the Museu Nacional d’art de Catalunya, and together they have decided to sell them for charity.

The online auction will support the arts and health project of the Vall Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona and takes place later this month.

Messi said: “Achieving the record of 644 goals for the same club made me very happy, but the most important thing is being able to give something back to all the kids fighting for their health.

“We hope this auction serves to really raise awareness about this great initiative and I would like to thank all for supporting a cause so important to me.”

The boots are both signed by him and customised with the names of his wife, three sons and their dates of birth. They have a guide price of between £50,000-£70,000.
