Police officer faces jail sentence for repeated assaults and threats to partner

-

A POLICE officer who repeatedly assaulted his girlfriend and threatened her throughout their six year relationship is facing jail.

PC Fraser Ross, 41, carried out attacks on terrified Anne-marie Hirdman before they split up.

Miss Hirdman, a bank receptionist, was left battered and bruised and required hospital treatment after Ross assaulted her.

One attack was so severe it left her unable to get out of bed for a week.

In another attack, Miss Hirdman said Ross’s eyes were “bulging” and he was “frothing at the mouth” before headbutting her against a kitchen wall.

During one incident Miss

Hirdman, 41, secretly recorded Ross making a string of chilling threats towards her.

At one point he was heard to say “why don’t I just f ***** g push you down the f ***** g stairs Annie?”.

He also said he “f ***** g snapped” and “I’ve done things I’ve never thought I would” during recordings played in court.

When she threatened to report him to police he told her they would both end up jailed and she would lose custody of her young son.

But when tempers flared in August 2019, Miss Hirdman did phone police and Ross was arrested by colleagues at his home in Motherwell, Lanarkshire.

Ross, who is based in Glasgow, denied any wrongdoing and went on trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court.

He was convicted by Sheriff Ross Macfarlane, QC ,following seven days of evidence.

Ross, who is currently suspended from duties, was found guilty of three charges of assault between October 2017 and August 2019.

He will be sentenced next month.
