A DELIGHTED Herald reader who has scooped a luxury hotel getaway said she plans to gift the prize to her son.

Helen Maitland, from Stirling, is the lucky winner of a two-night stay at the five-star Links House Royal Dornoch Hotel to celebrate its reopening later this month.

Mrs Maitland, a retired PA, said: “I can’t remember the last time I’ve won anything. Maybe £30 in the lottery, but nothing of any significance.”

The trip also includes dinner in The Courtroom brasserie restaurant, Highland breakfast both mornings, a bottle of Joseph Perrier champagne on arrival, an Arran Aromatic gift set, a Johnstons of Elgin vanity pouch, and the chance to be among the first guests to sample the new seasonal tasting menu at the hotel’s MARA eaterie. The married mother-of-one, 67, says she will pass the prize to her 37-year-old son and his girlfriend as a thank-you for driving her to and from hospital appointments and operations in Glasgow during the past year when she has been unwell.

Mrs Maitland added: “He is blown away by the idea. The hotel looks absolutely fabulous.”
