Skye trek makes top three in UK coastal walks

-

A SKYE beauty spot has been named in the UK’S top three coastal walks.

The survey of the best coastal walks was put together by Saveonenergy. com based on online reviews.

It compiled a list of all coastal walks on Tripadvisor and created a weighted ranking based on the number of reviews each walk received from one to five stars.

The highest rated walk overall was Gower Peninsular in Swansea, Wales. The scenic walk had an overall rating of 4.86/5 based on its reviews.

In second place was St Brelade’s Bay Beach in Jersey, Channel Islands. The walk attained a rating of 4.85/5, just 0.01 behind Gower Peninsular.

Third was the Quiraing on Skye, which received a score of 4.84/5.

The survey said: “Trailing through some of the most spectacular landscapes Scotland has to offer, it is no surprise Quiraing is the third highest rated coastal walk in the UK.

“Despite having a similar feel to both Gower Peninsula and St Brelade’s Bay Beach, Quiraing covers a distance of 6.8 kilometres and houses hundreds of unique rock formations for hikers and climbers alike to enjoy.

“This coastal walk on Skye features gorgeous grasslands, dramatic cliff edges, and a fascinating history dating back to its use by the Vikings.”

Causeway Coastal Walk, in Northern Ireland, with a rating of 4.8, was fourth, while in fifth place was Dunnottar Castle, near Stonehaven, on 4.79.
