Millar joy as series is biggest on Netflix

-

COMIC book tycoon Mark Millar has revealed his delight after his new series became the most watched show on Netflix worldwide.

The writer, 51, released Jupiter’s Legacy on the streaming platform last week. It soared to the top of the most viewed list and has stayed there for the last seven days.

Jupiter’s Legacy is an eight-part series telling the story of a family of superheroes and stars Josh Duhamel, Leslie Bibb and Ben Daniels.

It is Millar’s first Netflix offering since he sold his comic book empire to the streaming giant for £25 million in 2017.

As part of the deal, he became an executive at the home entertainment giant and now creates exclusive comics, movies and TV shows for the firm.

Revealing his pride at the success of Jupiter’s Legacy, he tweeted: “Word just in – we’re still the No 1 most watched show in the world today. That’s seven days in a row now we’ve been No 1 globally.

“Huge thanks to all my pals who worked on Jupiter’s Legacy & to everyone who has put it right at the top here.”

Earlier this week Millar, who is from Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, told of his delight at seeing billboards for the series appear on the streets of his home town, where he lived as a penniless writer. He said he felt emotional at seeing the hoardings for the show in Burnbank Street.

After his parents died when he was a teenager, he lived in a tiny flat there with a stray cat he adopted and could only afford to eat on alternate nights to help feed his pet.
