The Dog Rescuers with Alan Davies Channel 5, 7pm

Inspector Anthony has heard reports of a dog called Millie being beaten in broad daylight, and Animal Welfare Officer John has found

CCTV to back up the claim. The police agree that the dog is clearly suffering, and they go in convoy with Anthony to visit Millie’s owner, who clearly isn’t going to let his pet go without a fight. Over in Greater Manchester, Inspector Emma is responding to a tip-off from the police concerning a dog potentiall­y suffering from neglect. The owner admits that his dog Gizmo has had a skin condition for some time, and Emma decides he needs to be seen by a vet immediatel­y.

Bake Off: The Profession­als Channel 4, 8pm

Liam Charles and Tom Allen welcome back the five remaining teams, who face two even tougher challenges that demand patisserie perfection. First up, Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden challenge them to produce coneshaped desserts and master the art of illusion by concocting carrot-shaped designs, which must taste of anything but. They must then make 24 perfect and identical items of each pastry... all in just three and a half hours. Finally, the teams create a grand occasion showpiece – a Religieuse a l’ancienne (a choux pastry and custard “mountain”) – to serve 24 people, with two different flavours of eclairs inspired by the theme of time travel.

Great Continenta­l Railway Journeys BBC2, 6.30pm

Michael Portillo journey brings him to the Italian island of Sicily. In the capital city of Palermo, he takes in the art and architectu­re of the Futurists and feasts on spaghetti and sardines in the city’s Ballaro market. Then, he makes his way through the ancient town of Agrigento and the port of Siracus.

Hoarder Homes: No Room to Move Channel 5, 9pm

In Mansfield, Sue’s hoard is driving her family and grandchild­ren away and her husband Neil to distractio­n. Every room is crammed with clutter, including a room full of porcelain dolls. Meanwhile, bubbly actress Tricia lit up the screen with regular TV work in shows like Coronation Street and Eastenders in the 1980s. But as her acting work dried up, she found consolatio­n in collecting. Finally, Richard in Dorking has been collecting copies of every daily newspaper for over four decades.
