Sarah Beeny’s New Life in the Country Channel 4, 8pm

The property expert, her husband Graham Swift and their four boys reflect on their first two and a half years living in Somerset, asking themselves whether they have become country folk yet. But before they can tackle any of the rooms, the house needs a floor. Cement mixers roll in to pump screed throughout the property – a job the whole family get involved in – but it’s not all plain sailing as rain threatens to derail the process. Once the floor’s in, the fitting out of the interior can begin. The family have set themselves the target of getting the grand hallway ready for their first visitors in six months’ time. For inspiratio­n, they head to Crowcombe Court, a local stately home.

Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby BBC2, 8pm

Monica and Giles begin a new series by donning their thermals and visiting the ION Adventure Hotel in Iceland. They get involved in a whole range of adventure activities – from snorkellin­g in icy water to exploring fresh lava flows and glaciers. Monica visits the hotel’s unlikely neighbour, a geothermal power plant, while Giles goes fishing with a local family for the restaurant kitchen. Then, Giles and Monica get to work with safety crews to ensure the guests are safe on an erupting volcano.

Who Do You Think You Are? BBC1, 9pm

Former shadow chancellor Ed Balls grew up in a family that wanted to make the world a better place, and sets out to find out what kind of people his ancestors were. First up, he looks into rumours of a link to Nelson’s ship HMS Victory on his father’s side, and heads to Portsmouth to hear the story of his three-times great-grandfathe­r, an assistant surgeon. Initially, it looks like Ed will uncover a heroic tale, but the grim reality isn’t quite what he was hoping for.

Britney BBC1, 11.35pm

This comedy pilot, based on the sell-out live show by Charly Clive and Ellen Robertson, follows two young women who have been best friends since Year 8 Drama Club. Ten years on, Charly is leaving her home in New York to visit Ellen back in their village of Cumwell. Neither of them can wait to relive the glory days – a non-stop romcom of hair crimping and Mmmbop. But Ellen soon discovers that Charly isn’t planning on moving back permanentl­y, crushing her dreams. Meanwhile, Charly discovers that her mysterious lack of periods is a result of something much bigger and their world is suddenly tipped upside down.
