Paul Merson: A Walk Through My Life BBC2, 8pm

In October last year, former Arsenal England footballer Paul Merson revealed in a BBC documentary that he has lost £7million over 35 years due to his gambling addiction. Here, Paul takes a walk in the North York Moors and reflects on his life and career as well as a three-decade-long struggle with alcohol and gambling. He describes the loss of time he will never get back, but after three years sober, says he feels ”present and in the moment” thanks to ongoing therapy, his wife, family and faith. Stopping in a church, he talks about the role religion plays in his life and recovery and, in moving tributes to his dad and wife, he describes the sacrifices they have made for him throughout his life.

Masterchef BBC1, 8pm

It’s been an arduous seven-week journey for the chefs, and now the search for the country’s best amateur cook reaches its climax as the final contenders push themselves to the limit for one last time before judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace.

This is their very last chance for the chefs to pull out all the stops, show everything they’ve learned during the process, and demonstrate the kind of cook they have become. In the last challenge, they must produce the best three dishes of their lives and deliver jaw-droppingly good food. Who will lift the coveted Masterchef trophy?

Gordon Ramsay’s Future Food Stars BBC1, 9pm

Gordon is celebrating the very best of British – exquisite produce and the pinnacle of fine dining. First, he invites his entrepreneurs to harvest oysters by hand on the Essex coast. It’s tough out on the mud flats, and the contenders battle to maintain quality control as they are exposed to the elements. Next, Gordon sets arguably his toughest challenge to date: he puts the contenders in charge of the jewel in his restaurant crown, The Savoy Grill. With his reputation on the line, will the contenders live up to fiery chef’s high standards?

Chivalry Channel 4, 10pm

On the surface, Chivalry is the tale of a big-shot film producer with a taste for the ladies who is forced by the studio to reshoot his sexist film. However, there is a lot more to Steve Coogan and Sarah Solemani’s whip-smart comedy than meets the eye. The crux of the story is the relationship between cynical movie producer Cameron and indie director Bobby, who although they see the world very differently and have very little in common, slowly find a connection. In the fourth episode, the pair support Jean’s charitable efforts. Plus, Noah gets into a sticky situation at school, and Bobby throws a party.
