Remember when ... Glasgow launched a colourful Street Biz festival
STREET Biz, Glasgow’s first international street festival, was launched with a bang in August 1988. The first of its three weeks was devoted to street bands from such places as Tobago, New Orleans, India and Barbados. The second week was given over to the more traditional type of street entertainer – artists specialising in magic tricks, songs, cabaret, jokes and escapology. The final week was taken over by the Zap Club, from Brighton – an array of artists and performers who focused on the offbeat, such as Peter Sinclair and his home-made orchestra.
