Woman dies while kayaking
A KAYAKER died after getting into difficulty on a loch.
The woman contacted the coastguard to ask for help at around 11.07am yesterday.
A major air, land and sea search was launched as Stornoway coastguards and lifeboat teams from Portree and Kyle of Lochalsh rushed to search the area near Shieldaig.
She was airlifted to hospital after she was found on Loch Torridon in the northwest Highlands at around 12.30pm and taken on board Portree lifeboat, but she died at the scene.
A report has been sent to the procurator fiscal.
A police spokesman said: “Officers assisted coastguard in tracing the woman, who was recovered but later died at the scene.”
