John Greig held aloft the Cup Winners’ Cup

THOUSANDS of rain-soaked Rangers fans crowded into Ibrox on May 25, 1972, to give a heroes’ welcome to their players who had beaten Moscow Dynamo 3-2 in Barcelona to lift the European Cup Winners’ Cup. Fifty years on, captain John Greig, seen here with the trophy during that Ibrox victory parade, has returned to Spain – Seville, this time – to see if his club can defeat Eintracht Frankfurt in tonight’s final of the Europa League. “To see Rangers in a European final is something many of us thought would not be possible again,” he said.
