Scots teams reach Henley semi-finals
GLASGOW Academy and Edinburgh University both qualified for today’s semi-finals at Henley Royal Regatta with record-breaking performances yesterday.
Glasgow Academy faced Sydney in the quarter-finals of the Fawley Cup for schoolboy quadruple sculls, and were led off the start. But they hung on to their opponents and produced a gradual wind-up that saw them eventually win by two-thirds of a length in a new course record of 6 minutes and 38 seconds. They face England’s Sir William Borlase’s School in the semi-final.
Edinburgh University faced Cambridge’s Goldie in the quarter-final of the Prince Albert Cup for student coxed fours and they led the entire race before crossing the line one-third of a length ahead in a new record time of 6 minutes and 54 seconds. They now face the Dutch students from Nereus in today’s semi-final.
