Muir powers into native record books
LAURA MUIR smashed her lifetime best in the 1500 metres at the Diamond League in Monaco last night with the second-quickest run ever by a Briton.
The 22-year-old Scot ended up fifth in a Scottish record of 3:58.66 – breaking the four-minute mark for the first time – but was left trailing Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba who shattered the world record with a time of 3:50.07.
Mo Farah was beaten into fourth in the men’s 1500m, just missing his own European record, as Kenya’s Asbel Kiprop won in 3:26.69, the quickest time since 2001.
Elsewhere, Scottish prospect Mhairi Hendry was the fourth fastest qualifier for tonight’s 800m final at European Junior Championships in Sweden with Josh Kerr coasting into the 1500m final.
